About Us

Douro vineyard

Douro Vineyard is a recent startup founded by two young entrepreneurs located in the North of the country dedicated to promoting sustainable tours in the Alto Douro wine region, considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, through the brand Douro Vineyard. The tours have a high ecological component, involving visits to entities related to the history and customs of the region such as olive oil production, wine, ceramics, among others, as well as archaeological heritage, focusing on the target audience that prioritizes ecotourism. Currently, Douro Vineyard primarily markets tours in the Alto Douro region, a region with a strong diversity of habitats and ecosystems and simultaneously with a local culture of unique characteristics. Aware of the need to preserve the territory and ecosystems, the company develops tours with a series of actions aimed at:

Responsible Tourism – Guides who accompany the group and respect natural and cultural areas, following designated trails and ensuring that no waste is left behind.

Sustainable Transport – Use of a predominantly electric fleet on trips, minimizing environmental impacts caused by combustion. In some tours, public transportation such as the train (with an incredible view of the Douro slope) is used, and in others, bicycles are used (in partnership).

Sustainable Visits – The partners selected for the activities included in the tours must demonstrate environmental practices that contribute to climate transition, including energy efficiency, ecological materials, and responsible water management. Environmental and Nature Learning – During the trips, tourist guides present a series of educational activities about local biodiversity and address existing programs on ecosystem conservation to raise awareness among tourists about the importance of preservation. Involvement with wine tourism – The tours include participation in daily activities related to the care and maintenance of the vineyard. Presenting tourists with sustainable and organic viticulture practices, due to selected partners who respect the environment and local biodiversity.

Community Proximity – The tours include visits and participation in pilgrimages and events typical of the regions surrounding the Douro, promoting the customs and natural and sustainable products of the region.

These activities are only possible thanks to the realization of strategic partnerships with  cooperatives and local groups, which allow tourists to participate directly in the production, processing, and sale of products, both agricultural and crafts, and with entities that promote traditional cooking workshops, crafts, and sustainable agriculture and livestock techniques.
